About Me
I graduated from Georgia State University in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in fine arts, with a concentration in art education and photography. I enjoy all facets of art such as drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, and ceramics. I am hoping to teach art at the High School level and will eventually return to school to get my Masters Degree so I can be a college professor, and perhaps a photographer on the side.I love that art allows me to express myself non-verbally and I can put so much feeling and emotion into the pieces I create. Art for me is the ultimate release and I have been so inspired by my art teachers throughout the years and I want to carry that on to my students.
PhilosophyI have wanted to teach art for as long as I can remember, because throughout school the most inspiring teachers I had were my art teachers. There was a point in my life where I felt as if I had no talent in anything and my high school art teacher made me realize that I could create great art as long as I believed in myself. She encouraged all her students equally and every student loved her because she brought out the best in everyone. I want to be able to do the same for students. It would be amazing to have the opportunity to inspire and encourage children and adolescents every day. I would love to help them learn and grow and tap into talents that they never knew existed in them. I think art is extremely important for all students to have in school because it boosts students’ self-esteem and self-confidence. It opens up new windows and allows for expression outside of words and language. Art also allows children to be more social because they can concentrate as well as communicate with others about their art. Art can give children an outlet to express deep feelings that they are uncomfortable expressing verbally, or it can allow them to relieve anger in a non-violent and non-aggressive way. Art programs are important in schools and I believe they can enhance performance in other subjects by giving students creative freedom. I cannot wait to teach art and be able to inspire and encourage students every day, to help them learn and grow and be the best artists and students they can.
